I was in Grande Prairie last weekend and decided to pop into the Farmer's Market so see what was around. I picked up a couple cheeses I thought would be good in grilled cheese sandwiches and here's the first of them.
Sylvan Star Cheese Farm is located outside Red Deer, AB and apparently ship their cheese all over the province. The Goat Gouda I purchased is a firm cheese with a smooth, nutty flavour. There's just the right hint of saltiness and if I didn't know it was a goat cheese I probably wouldn't be able to guess.
I only had a quick bite of this cheese before I used it in the grilled cheese bagels I made. That quick taste told me it should work fine for what I had planned. Now that I've had some more of Sylvan Star's Goat Gouda solo I'm still impressed. This is a very versatile cheese and I was torn between using the last of it in an omelette or another grilled cheese varietal for breakfast this morning. Check back tomorrow to see what I decided!
Highly Recommended.

Being from Red Deer I'm pretty familiar with Sylvan Star. They have a fantastic old cheddar that's worth a try, too.
ReplyDeleteSounds good, I'll have to keep an eye out for that one!
