Borgonzola

A new month, a new cheese box in the mail. We've been enjoying the Cheese of the Month Club so much that we've decided to sign up for 3 more months of delicious postal cheese.

Borgonzola is a made by Castello, a dairy cooperative in Denmark that's been active since 1893. After over 100 years in business they certainly know what they're doing. The name Borgonzola appears to be a mash-up of brie and gorgonzola which is exactly what this cheese is. It looks like a nice semi-soft brie but it's got a ribbon of blue cheese running through it.  The smooth texture is nice and creamy and then you get hit with the sharp tang of the blue cheese.

The blue flavour definitely isn't as strong as in a regular Danish blue or a gorgonzola but it's still not for the faint of heart. I love blue cheese and I always enjoy a softer cheese like brie or camembert so Borgonzola was right up my alley. I really enjoyed the strong flavour combined with the smooth texture. I wouldn't have thought to make a cheese like this but I'm glad the Danes did.

Highly Recommended.

  1. You might also want to try Cambozola. It is a delicious hybrid of a Camembert and a Gorgonzola.
