Punchestown Irish Mature Cheddar was a nicely aged cheddar that I enjoyed in a variety of ways. Sadly it's one that I probably waited too long to review and my memory is hazy on the nuances of its flavour and unfortunately I've eaten the whole brick of it now. The fact that it's all eaten is a point in its favour as it means I wanted to keep eating it. I used the Punchestown cheddar in omelettes, sandwiches, salads and more. I seem to remember it being less salty than it's fellow cheddar from the Emerald Isle "the Craic" and again it had a notable but smooth flavour.

I'm doing a head-to-head taste test now with Punchestown and Craic. Craic has the little crunch, probably of salt that I like. Other than the salt, they are very similar in texture and flavour. Am I missing something?
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you're not missing anything. Everyone's palate is a bit different. Plus I did the tastings on these two some time apart.
