Le Rustique Camembert

Today we review a French cheese from Normandy. Le Rustique Camembert by Jean Verrier Fromager. We bought this cheese for a special cooking project that I'll share with you soon but I thought it only right to review the cheese on its own merits.

Le Rustique is a stronger camembert. It has a slightly funky flavour as we discovered when we left it in the car between the cheese shop and running into the grocery store for a couple more ingredients. Nothing overly stinky though. The flavour too is stronger than your average camembert. It's a bit earthy, tangy, a nice finish of an almost mushroom flavour. It's very creamy in texture.

Le Rustique is a soft "surface ripened" cheese with a lot of character.

Recommended.
